Rook takes Queen

Rook takes Queen

Repurposed upcycled 20p

Inspired by the curiosity of Ravens and my love of their curious nature. I personally was curious to see if I could carve a curious Raven from an old twenty pence.  I could, but it was no simple task!  Lets say a fun challenge.

Each pendant is carefully handcrafted to order.  The first task is to freehand sketch the raven onto the coin in such a way that the crown is worn.  Once the design has been freehand sketched on to the coin it is carefully hand cut and carved using traditional hand saws, chisels and files. This traditional process allows me to have a close connection to each piece, ensuring the end result is personal, unique and an out right curiosity.

Obviously the unique charm of this piece is that through investing time, passion, patience the simple coin is transformed into a precious wearable work of art.  To put a ‘jewel in the crown’ I have set the coin with a precious wee ruby sitting in a 18ct solid gold gypsy setting.  You are welcome to request a beautiful emerald in place of the ruby.

Finally, you are also welcome to request me to engrave a special initial on the reverse.

Handcrafted in Cambridge, England.

Size : Approx 21 mm diameter.
