A little more detail…
Celtic Cross – Recycled out of circulation old £1 coin – Celtic Cross
A visual master piece, I make this piece from an old £1 coin – a piece of our history for us English folk, or a novel collectors’ item for other nationalities! I meticulously hand-cut, carve and engrave each pendant using traditional engraving chisels and saws. This process is rather tricky, given the thickness of the coin.
Each one completely original and unique. Every pendant comes complete with a lovely cotton braided, adjustable neckcord. Handcrafted & Recycled in Cambridge, UK.
The Celtic cross is both a symbol of Christian faith and Celtic heritage, merging the cross’s representation of sacrifice and the promise of eternal life with the ancient circle representing eternity, the sun, or the interconnectedness of all things. It illustrates life’s cyclical nature, harmony between the earthly and divine, and a deep, continuous spiritual journey, incorporating elements like knotwork for unity and the four arms representing the elements or cardinal directions.
The central cross signifies Christ’s crucifixion, the connection between Heaven and Earth, and the hope of eternal life. The surrounding circle links to ancient Celtic beliefs and possibly represents the sun, eternity, or God’s endless love. It symbolizes infinity, suggesting the unending nature of life or God’s boundless love.
The circle, like the knotwork often found on the cross, can represent unity and the interconnectedness of all things. For some, it is an echo of older sun cross symbolism, bridging ancient pagan traditions with Christian contexts. The four arms of the cross can represent the four cardinal directions, the four elements (earth, air, fire, water), or the four seasons.
Intricate Celtic knotwork, a hallmark of the cross, visually symbolizes interconnectedness, the ongoing cycle of life, and the timeless nature of the spirit. The Celtic cross is a potent visual reminder of death and rebirth, illustrating life as an uninterrupted continuum of renewal and transformation. It signifies the harmonious balance between the physical and spiritual realms, the earthly and the divine.
The symbol serves as a spiritual guide, prompting reflection on the natural cycles of existence and encouraging a deeper connection to life’s mysteries
