Escape from Efrafa
Recycled sterling silver Crown and sixpences
The book Watership Down inspired me to create this piece. This silver rabbit necklace is showing the scene when the rabbits are escaping from Efrafa and heading towards the forest. I have hand cut each wee bunny from a recycled sterling silver Victorian or Georgian sixpence coin. I have pierced the background swirls and stars from a large flattened silver Crown coin circa 1850s as well. Discarded and uncollectible by numismatists, these coins are just screaming out to be recycled. I invest time into creating a piece which is beautiful and ethical. My aim is to not only create a contemporary, wearable design but also revive some of the original history. I preserve these coins for a future generation.
This little colony of nine rabbits are racing towards the beautiful Peridot stone. Usually, I finish this silver rabbit necklace with a hand wrought ‘shepherd’s crook’ safety catch with accompanying star. You are welcome to choose a particular necklace length, type of charm at the catch, etc. I’ve also added a secret little extra… you can also wear this necklace with the reverse showing, which depicts a lovely surprise nighttime scene of swirls and stars…
