Recycled silver Crown coins

This fabulous new hunting owl necklace has been meticulously handcrafted from a large 120 year old recycled solid silver Crown and Half Crown coins. Each one of these coins is obtained due to them not being of collectible quality. This is a real shame as they represent such a fasinating history. Rather than let them simply be ‘melted down’ to release the base value of the precious metal, i buy as many as i can to transform into lovely, wearable jewellery! I make sure each piece retains signs of its historical origins.

Firstly the coins are fused together to give me the perfect, large working area. The owl has been carefully hand drawn onto the surface of the flattened silver coins. It is then cut out by hand using a traditional jewellers piercing saw. Once the basic shape has been cut i meticulously and individually carve the details of each feather. Each necklace ordered will be completely unique and individual. Be assured that it will be equally, if not more beautiful. The reverse of the necklace is also very special, the details of which will remain a secret for its wearer! I’m not telling 🙂

She can also represent the cyclical nature of spring and new life after winter, despite her tragic fate.

Her literal creation from nine flowers signifies new life, beauty, and the ephemeral nature of spring. The owl represents her punishment and the consequences of her actions. It symbolizes her sorrow, solitude, and a connection to the night, contrasting with her original bright, floral nature.

Blodeuwedd is a powerful symbol of betrayal, as she plots to kill her husband, Llew. Her transformation into an owl is a potent symbol of profound change, both internal and external, and the stark reality that can follow moments of defiance or beauty.

Her story is interpreted as a complex portrayal of a woman’s fight for autonomy, even if it leads to her downfall. She defies her fate to choose her own love, breaking the life pre-ordained for her by the wizards Math and Gwydion. Blodeuwedd’s narrative reflects the cyclical themes of death and rebirth found in Celtic mythology, with her initial formation from flowers and subsequent transformation into an owl mirroring these cycles.

Made from flowers of the woodland and the oak being the wisest of all trees, Blodeuwedd like us is part of and connected to the Earth. Her spirit and divine energy are profound. Through her experience of existence she accepts herself and turns against what other people who seek to control her want her to be. From flower maiden to self actualised, independent critical thought – wise.
