A little more detail…

I have hand cut and carved this lovely ‘Liberty Skull’ ring from a beautifully worn and unwanted silver Dime coin.  These coins were minted in the USA from 1916 to 1945 and are 90% silver as opposed to UK silver which is 92.5% silver.  For the purposes of jewellery there is no visible difference in the quality of the silver.  However to maintain the distinguishing differences in the very high hallmarking standard our country operates within this ring would be referred to as ‘white metal’ so as to not confuse with actual sterling silver which is 925 or 92.5% silver.  The rest of the band forming the ring is recycled sterling silver but if the ring was melted down in total there would be a quality of silver which would not pass a UK hallmarking assay.  I wish the dimes were sterling silver!  but as they are not I am happy enough to describe the ring as white metal inorder for me to be able to create it.

Obviously I only use silver dimes that have found their way to me due to being unwanted by coin collectors. Often these lovely coins become uncollectible due to being in circulation and losing important details which collectors desire. These ‘imperfections’ are elements that i cherish as they show the previous life of the coin and provide lovely food for my imagination! I love to ‘adopt’ these little orphans and reinvent them into desirable, wearable jewellery.

Each ring is completely hand cut and carved using traditional tools and techniques. The edges of the recycled sterling silver band are uniquely carved with a tiny, intricate, traditional English scroll design. As a result each piece is unique, individual, original, and 100% ethical and recycled!
