A little more detail…
Silver shillings, old ‘ship haypenny’ half pennies and a ‘thrupney-bit’ threepence coins are recycled to craft these lovely Oak leaf and acorn earrings. These coins are unwanted by coin collectors due to wear marks from being used to buy and sell over one hundred years ago.
Rather than let them simply be melted down for the silver content I absolutely love coming up with designs and ideas to transform them into something desirable. By doing this the historical details are retained, simultaneously adding depth, interest and intrigue to the design.
The Oak leaves and acorns have been individually hand cut from the old ‘out of circulation’ coins with a traditional jewellers saw. For added interest an ‘off-cut’ surrounding coin is included with the earrings. The Oak leaves can also be engraved on the reverse with personal initials upon request. You are welcome to choose from two silver leaves, two ‘half penny’ leaves, a mixture of both or all four leaves to share with someone special.
Handmade and completely recycled in Cambridge, UK. Complete with the finest sterling silver earwires. Size : Approx 25 mm * 11 mm
Strength and Endurance:The oak’s longevity and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions make its leaves a powerful symbol of resilience and enduring strength.
Wisdom and Longevity:Oaks are known for their long lifespans, leading to associations with wisdom, experience, and the passage of time.
Hospitality and Virtue: In some contexts, oak leaves are linked to hospitality and the welcoming nature of the oak tree, as well as virtues like honesty and integrity.
Spiritual and Religious Significance:Oak trees hold sacred significance in various cultures and religions, often representing sacredness, protection, and even divinity. For example, the Celtic Druids revered the oak, and it is mentioned in both the Christian Bible and Slavic mythology.
Personal Reflection:In a more personal context, oak leaves can symbolize a need for detailed awareness and a deeper appreciation for nuance in life, encouraging one to look closely at the details and find meaning in the ordinary

Just beautiful. I am so pleased with them and, as someone else has said, they are very light and comfortable. They are so well made. Unfortunately this is bad news for my bank account as I’m definitely ordering more jewellery from here.
