A little more detail…
For me the ladybird is definitely one of the sweetest little insects to land on you, although when there is a whole bunch it does get kinda creepy. However, their loveliness has made them symbols of good luck in many cultures.
The ladybird, also known as the ladybug, is primarily associated with good fortune, love, and divine grace. Its gentle demeanor, vibrant colors, and role as a protector of crops have embedded it in folklore across many cultures, casting it as a potent and positive omen.
The most widespread association of the ladybird is with good luck and prosperity. Finding a ladybird on you is considered a stroke of luck, sometimes with the number of spots on its back predicting the number of happy months to come. In some spiritual beliefs, the ladybird flies to a higher plane, carrying your wishes and fulfilling them.
Protection and divine intervention
The ladybird’s red-and-black coloration is a natural defense mechanism, warning predators that it may be poisonous. This has influenced its symbolic meaning of providing protection.
The name “ladybird” comes from a legend that medieval farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help with a pest infestation. When ladybirds appeared and saved their crops, the farmers dedicated the beetle to “Our Lady”.
The ladybird’s life cycle, which includes a complete metamorphosis, serves as a powerful metaphor for personal change and rebirth. Its transition from a larval “alligator” to a pupa and finally a beautiful, winged beetle symbolizes entering a new phase of life or trusting the process of personal growth. The ladybird hibernates during the winter and becomes active again in the spring. This mirrors the cycles of life, renewal, and positive new beginnings.
With its cheerful appearance, the ladybird is also a symbol of love and innocent joy. Folklore suggests that if a ladybird lands on a young woman’s hand, she will be married within the year. Some believe the direction the beetle flies indicates where her true love lives. For those already in a relationship, a ladybird’s appearance can signal that the love will flourish.
The ladybird’s gentle nature and vibrant appearance make it a favorite of children, linking it to innocence and the simple joys of childhood.

My husband gave me a ladybird ring for my birthday earlier this year.
It is simply stunning, I wear it most days and am always being asked about it.
I absolutely love it 🙂

I absolutely love it! It’s so different to anything you can purchase in big standard jewellery shops, and I love the fact that it’s made from otherwise useless coins.
I wear it most days, both casually and on specially occasions and I’m always asked about it:)
