A little more detail…

These lovely leaping hare earrings have been recycled from two English sterling silver shillings. These coins are unwanted by coin collectors due to wear marks from being used to buy and sell over one hundred years ago. Rather than let them simply be melted down for the silver content I absolutely love coming up with designs and ideas to transform them into something desirable. By doing this the historical details are retained, simultaneously adding depth, interest and intrigue to the design.

The hares have been individually hand cut from the silver shillings with a traditional jewellers saw. They are then carefully hand engraved with falling leaves. On the reverse of the earrings secret silver leaves are fused and engraved. These are cut from the same silver coin as the earrings and are a secret for the wearer or anyone close enough to notice ! You are welcome to request the hares to be finished plain, no surface decoration.

Each pair is completely unique, contemporary, ethical and beautiful. They are presented complete with an ‘off-cut’ of sterling silver shilling which beautifully demonstrates the origins of the hares and connect them to their interesting, recycled material history. Sizes : Approx 24 mm length
