Talisman Rings
Choose the symbol that speaks to you.
Some symbols have followed humanity for thousands of years.
They have been scratched into stone, painted onto walls, carried as charms, worn as jewellery and passed from one generation to another.
The Talisman Rings collection brings together a small group of those enduring symbols, each individually handcrafted in silver at the Hairy Growler bench.
Choose from the Pentagram, Eye of Horus, Quintessence, Heart, Star, Moon, Om or Lotus Flower.
One ring. One symbol. Your meaning.

Pentagram
One of the oldest and most misunderstood symbols in the collection.
The five-pointed star has appeared across different cultures, philosophies and spiritual traditions for centuries.
Its five points have often been interpreted as the elements of earth, air, fire, water and spirit brought together into a single balanced form.
For some it represents protection.
For others, harmony, nature, humanity or the relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Five points. One whole.
Eye of Horus
The Eye of Horus comes from ancient Egypt and has endured as one of the world’s great protective symbols.
It has been associated with protection, healing, restoration and watchfulness.
Ancient amulets carrying the eye were worn and buried with the dead in the hope that its protective power would accompany them.
Thousands of years later, the symbol still carries that unmistakable sense of being watched over.
Protection. Sight. Restoration.
Quintessence
The Quintessence symbol comes from the strange and fascinating world of alchemy.
The ancient elements were often understood as earth, air, fire and water.
Beyond them was believed to exist a fifth element.
The quintessence.
Aether.
Spirit.
The invisible substance that connected everything else.
Alchemy eventually became part of the foundation from which modern chemistry emerged, but its symbols still speak to something deeply human.
The desire to understand what the world is made from and what might exist beyond the obvious.
The fifth element. The thing between things.
Heart
Perhaps no symbol needs less explanation.
The heart has travelled through art, religion, folklore and popular culture until it has become one of the most instantly understood marks in the world.
Love.
Affection.
Friendship.
Memory.
Devotion.
Its meaning changes depending on who gives it and who wears it.
The simplest symbol can sometimes carry the biggest story.
Star
Stars have guided people for as long as we have looked upwards.
They have helped travellers find direction, inspired stories and become symbols of hope, guidance and distant possibility.
A star can represent ambition.
Someone who guides you.
A destination not yet reached.
Or simply the reminder that there is always something beyond the horizon.
A little direction for the journey.
Moon
The moon is one of the oldest clocks humanity has ever known.
Waxing.
Full.
Waning.
Dark.
Returning again.
Its constant cycle has connected it with intuition, change, renewal and the rhythms of the natural world.
A moon talisman can mean transition, reflection, femininity, mystery or simply a love of the night sky.
Everything changes. The moon returns.
Om
Om is a sacred sound and symbol within Indian religious and philosophical traditions, particularly Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
It has come to represent unity, consciousness and the underlying connection between the individual and the wider universe.
For those who choose it with respect for its origins, the symbol can become a reminder of stillness, breath and connection.
A small symbol for something immeasurably large.
Lotus Flower
The lotus grows from mud and dark water before opening into the light.
That simple natural process gave the flower extraordinary symbolic importance across several Asian traditions.
It became associated with purity, awakening, resilience and spiritual growth.
The symbolism is difficult to miss.
The conditions we grow from do not necessarily define what we become.
Rooted in the mud. Opening towards the light.
Symbols We Carry
People have always worn symbols.
Sometimes for faith.
Sometimes for protection.
Sometimes to remember another person.
Sometimes because a particular image seems to express something we cannot easily put into words.
That is how I think these rings work best.
I can tell you where the symbols came from and some of the meanings they have gathered over time.
But once the ring leaves the bench, its most important meaning belongs to the wearer.
A Modern Talisman
A talisman does not have to be an ancient magical object.
It can simply be something small that becomes meaningful because we carry it.
A ring given at an important moment.
A symbol chosen after a difficult year.
A reminder of somebody.
A private promise.
A mark of belief.
Or simply an image you have always been drawn towards without entirely knowing why.
Meaning has a habit of accumulating around the things we keep close.
Made by Hand at the Hairy Growler Bench
Each Talisman Ring is individually made rather than mass produced.
The silver is cut, formed and finished by hand before the chosen symbol is worked into the face of the ring.
Edges are refined.
Surfaces are textured and polished.
Recessed areas are darkened where appropriate to bring out the detail.
The finished ring retains the small differences that come from hand making.
A line may sit slightly differently.
A texture may vary.
The surface will carry the touch of the tools that made it.
It should look made, not manufactured.
Choose the One That Finds You
There is no correct way to choose a talisman.
You might begin with the history.
You might choose purely by instinct.
You may already have worn the same symbol for years.
Or one of them may simply stop you for a second when you look through the photographs.
That is usually enough.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The pentagram ring was bought for me as a present. I had been looking for a ring with a Pentagram on it for some time, but had never found one that was quite right, until I saw this one. Most had been very “In your face” large rings, but this was so neat and beautiful, I fell in love with it straight away. I love the fact that it is hand crafted and recycles old coins and cutlery. Well, I thought the ring was beautiful when I saw it on the website, but when it arrived…Wow!! The craftsmanship is just amazing! It is such a pretty little ring and looks stunning on. I have had several comments on it and people have asked me where I got it, as it is so unusual. This was our first purchase from Hairy Growler, but certainly won’t be our last!
