Gorgeous, asymetrical starry owl and cat earrings completely handcrafted and totally made from recycled raw materials. They have been carefully cut from 100 year old solid silver shilling coins. The crecsent moon and star have been cut from an old ‘out of circulation’ thrupney bit, threepence coin.
Each owl and pussy-cat was hand drawn on to the surface of the coins and then pierced out with a traditional jewellers piercing saw.
Handmade and completely recycled in Cambridge, UK. Complete with the finest sterling silver ear wires and silver shilling ‘off-cut’. Size : cat and owl approx 30 mm * 15 mm. (Total dangle length approx 58mm)
“The Owl and the Pussy-cat,” by Edward Lear, is a whimsical poem known for its nonsensical elements, but it also carries symbolic weight. The poem celebrates love and companionship, as the owl and the pussycat, despite their differences, form a strong bond and embark on an adventurous journey together. It encourages embracing adventure and finding joy in the simple things, while also hinting at the unconventional nature of love.
The central theme revolves around the love between the owl and the pussycat, transcending their different species and personalities. The journey on the pea-green boat symbolizes a willingness to explore the unknown and seek new experiences. The poem highlights that love can blossom between seemingly mismatched individuals, emphasizing the idea that love conquers all, even differences in species and social norms.
The poem’s nonsensical elements, like the “runcible spoon” and the land where pigs play instruments, encourage imagination and a playful approach to life.
He transforms everyday objects and experiences, like a boat ride and a wedding, into whimsical and delightful events, suggesting that joy can be found in the ordinary.

I have just received a customised version of the Owl and Pussycat earrings and they are stunning. I asked for the leaf and feather to be changed for other things mentioned in the rhyme, so my owl now has his small guitar and the pussycat has a love heart and music note.
Les, thank you so much for creating this special set for me.
All beautifully presented too.

Arrived safely this morning and I am so impressed. I love all the detail and the little guitar is perfect.
I’m a little bit obsessed with the Owl and Pussycat, we had them in our wedding invites and cake in 2002. So almost Silver wedding time – who knows, I might commission a necklace for that 🙂
Thank you so much for creating a bit of magic for me.
