A little more detail…
Each White Hart necklace is the result of recycling a pair of lovely old but valuable coins. To recycle and reuse these spoons i firstly clean them up, then plan and sketch the design onto the ‘flattened’ coin.
Tentatively, tiny holes are drilled through the coin at marked positions. These allow me to feed the miniature hand saw into the middle of the flattened coin, thus enabling to cut away the inside sections. The outline of the White Hart design is then meticulously followed with the piercing saw. Once the wonderful White Hart is ‘freed’ from the confines of the coin it is filed and polished to a true finish. The crown is similarly hand cut and carved from a 22ct gold sovereign coin.
The white hart symbolizes purity, a spiritual messenger from the otherworld, and divine power. It signifies the start of a noble quest for knights in Arthurian legend and the elusive pursuit of knowledge. In Christianity, the white hart represents Christ incarnate. According to legend, the white hart displayed a crucifix between its antlers, which led to the conversion of Saint Eustace. The white hart is a sacred animal that represents a noble spiritual quest, often described as elusive and never truly catchable.
In Celtic traditions, the white hart served as a messenger from the otherworld, appearing to signal significant events or the beginning of a quest. Its appearance can signify a moment of transition or a catalyst for significant change in the life of the viewer.
King Richard II of England adopted the white hart as his personal emblem, or heraldic emblem, using its image for credibility. In some Scottish lore, such as the tale of Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran, the appearance of a white stag is an omen of good fortune, particularly when the chief of the Hamilton clan is near death.
The inherent white color of the hart links it to purity and the supernatural, making it a creature of divine power. Its mystical and alluring beauty makes it a creature that is difficult for a person of impure heart to harm or capture
White Hart inspired necklace with wonderful sustainable, conscious credentials and a completely great conversation piece. Handmade and recycled in Cambridge.
