A little more detail…

Willow Tree earrings – Willow leaf stud earrings handcrafted and recycled from a 100 year old silver shilling.

These enchanting Willow leaf stud type earrings could’ve fallen straight from a Weeping Willow tree.  I recycle silver shillings to craft these lovely Willow leaf earrings.

The Willow of the sacred Ogham trees Tree of the 5th of the 13 Lunar Moonths. 15th April – 12th May seeing in the May Hare full moon.

The Willow is sacred and helps deal with grief, loss, depression and ultimately death. The willow also provides inspiration, emotional and psychological protection with a pathway for Love. Our ancestors thought it had the power to enhance fertility, which I also believe.

These wee stud earrings are recycled from a 100 year old silver shilling.  Coincidently, coin collectors do not value these shillings. This is down to marks and blemishes on the surface. For the most part, wear and tear make these coins unwanted – but not to me. I refuse to let these coins be melted down for the silver content. Instead, I’ve transformed them into something desirable. I create designs and ideas to preserve the coins’ personalities and quirks. By doing this, I make sure the historical details are retained; which adds depth, interest and intrigue to the design.

I cut the Willow leaves individually from the old ‘out of circulation’ coins with a traditional jeweller’s saw then carved and engraved.

For added interest, I add an ‘off-cut’ surrounding coin is included with the earrings. Handmade and completely recycled in Cambridge, UK. Size : Approx 16 mm * 2 mm

Willow tree jewellery. The willow tree is ruled by the Moon, the tree of enchantment is perfect for Healing, Help-in-Grief-and-Death, Inspiration, Fertility & Love.  Consequently a selection of jewellery for those feeling willow.

The Willow, the Saille, the Ogham-letter-S.  The Ruler-of-the-5th-Lunar-Month, 15th-April-12th-May.  The willow tree connects with and symbolises Powers, Healing, Help-in-Grief-and-Death, Inspiration, Fertility, Love, Protection.

Grief and Mourning: The weeping willow’s drooping branches and lachrymose appearance are strongly associated with grief, sorrow, and mourning. It is a common image on tombstones, symbolizing loss and the passage of a life. In Shakespeare’s “Othello,” the “Willow Song” sung by Desdemona reflects her lamentation and sorrow. The willow’s association with sadness is seen in both Western and Eastern cultures, with some cultures literally referring to specific species as “weeping willows”.

Resilience and Hope:Despite its association with sadness, the willow also represents resilience and the ability to endure hardship. Its flexible branches can bend in the wind but don’t break, symbolizing the capacity to adapt and recover from adversity. The willow’s ability to grow back after being cut down or damaged further emphasizes its symbolic connection to renewal and hope.

Connection to the Past:The willow’s roots and connection to the earth can symbolize a link to ancestral roots and cultural heritage.

Protection:In some cultures, willow branches are used to ward off evil spirits or bring good luck.

Feminine Melancholy: In Russian tradition, the willow is associated with female melancholy and worried expectation.

Psychic Faculties: In Celtic mythology, the willow is sometimes associated with psychic abilities.

Adaptability and Growth:The willow’s rapid growth and ability to thrive in various environments can symbolize adaptability and the capacity for personal growth.

“Ruled by the Moon, the tree of enchantment is perfect for Healing, Help-in-Grief-and-Death, Inspiration, Fertility & Love.” – The Harey Growler.
