A little more detail…

Recycled silver Florin coin

This beautiful little silver tree pendant has been meticulously handcrafted from a flattened sterling silver florin coin, pre 1919. These lovely old pure silver coins are fab to work with.

Discarded and uncollectible by numismatists, these coins are just screaming out to be lovingly and sympathetically recycled. Rather than simply melting them down for the silver i prefer to invest time into creating a piece which is beautiful and ethical. I aim to not only create a contemporary, wearable design but also revive some of the original history, interest an beauty.

Each one of these trees is a complete pleasure to make, totally unique and completely individual. Once crafted the tree can be finished with a simple mounted star, heart or crescent moon hanging freely at the bale.

For added interest the ‘off-cut’ surrounding silver coin is included with the necklace. This simple byproduct will connect you to your new tree and its fascinating history. Size : Approx 32 mm * 24 mm

Trees blowing in the wind make me think about change and impermanence, with the wind representing unseen forces that alter life’s course, and the trees symbolizing the our lives of being rooted yet buffeted by these shifts. They can also represent divine or spiritual presence, the power and mystery of nature, emotional states like peace or anxiety, and the struggle between rootedness and freedom.

The wind, as an unseen yet powerful force, symbolizes God or life’s inevitable changes, while the trees represent humanity, affected by these forces. The constant swaying and rustling of leaves can symbolize the transient nature of life, with each gust representing a moment of change or loss. The trees’ movement can evoke this sense of being carried by powerful, unseen currents.

In the Bible, the wind’s movement is used as a metaphor for the mysterious and sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, which is present and influential but not always visible or understood. The imagery connects the divine to the tangible world, suggesting a God who is both transcendent and immanent.

The sound of wind in trees, or psithurism, can evoke feelings of peace and contemplation or, conversely, can symbolize anxiety and turmoil. The wind can be a destructive force, capable of scattering leaves or breaking branches, symbolizing its overwhelming power over the natural world and, by extension, over life.

The wind can also represent the adversities and challenges of life that a person must navigate, even while remaining firmly planted.
