Recycled soup spoon
I used to believe that if i swallowed a seed from an apple core that there was a very good possibility whilst i was sleeping that it would rapidly take root in my tummy and when i woke up roots would be coming out of my bum bum and twigs out of my nose. I would then have to hide this shame by sneaking outside before breakfast time and stand with the other trees submitting myself to the impending reality that i was going to spend the rest of my time on the planet as a tree. I guessed that this was happened to other members of the family. After all there were several trees outside and I was without brothers and sisters, its the logical conclusion.
Anyway, that madness aside that got me thinking about a little red squirrel pup pondering about an acorn…. This brooch has been delicately hand cut with a traditional jewelers saw and drill. Each brooch is a total ‘one-off’, completely unique.
Being handcrafted from an old soup spoon each one is absolutely original, recycled and ethically sound. The techniques used to create the brooch are time honored and traditional.
The concept is both modern and traditional. What is now termed recycling in the past may have been called resourcefulness. The simple thing separating the two are motif. Resourcefulness originating from saving money and recycling a principle to try and save the planet from ourselves!
An integral and interesting part of the brooch is the antique dessert spoon from which it was cut. This simple ‘donor’ spoon is also given a little ‘Hairy Growler’ treatment. It is transformed in to an wonderful Objects D’ Art which acts a lovely resting place for the brooch when not being worn. Both are presented in a lovely box.
Handmade and recycled in Cambridge.
