The Florin Daisy
Sterling Silver Necklace — Forged from a 120 Year Old Coin
She began as currency.
Now she blooms.
More than a century ago, this sterling silver Florin passed quietly from hand to hand — an ordinary piece of everyday exchange.
Too worn to remain collectible.
Far too full of story to be melted for scrap.
Instead, she was given a second life.
From that 120-year-old silver, I shaped a daisy — open, unassuming, quietly resilient.
She has history beneath her petals.
At the Bench
This necklace was not cast.
The Florin was cut and worked by hand. The vine formed slowly, drawn into a natural curve as if it had always lived within the coin. Leaves were shaped directly from silver; the daisy head sculpted and set with a warm pure 24ct gold centre — a small sun held within old sterling.
The clasp is the signature Hairy Growler shepherds crook hand-forged with a subtle scroll — a nod to traditional English metalwork, restrained and intentional.
Every line is cut by tool.
Every surface holds the evidence of touch.
Nothing rushed. Nothing automated.
The Meaning of the Daisy
Daisies do not compete for attention.
They appear quietly in fields and pavements alike — persistent, bright, steady.
In folklore they symbolise:
• New beginnings
• Innocence
• Loyal affection
• Joy without spectacle
Within the Hairy Growler woodland lineage, the daisy sits beside oak leaves, hares and foxes — humble forms carrying quiet depth.
If you are drawn to this piece, you may also recognise its sister work — the Daisy Ring — shaped with the same intention of everyday beauty made enduring.
They were not designed as a set.
But they speak the same language.
The Time Horizon
Past
A Florin struck over 120 years ago.
Present
Reshaped at the bench into a living form.
Future
To be worn, marked gently by time, and carried forward again.
This is not new silver.
It is continued silver.
Quiet Prestige
The coin’s age remains visible.
Its edge still carries its former life. The silver has not been polished into anonymity. It retains its depth, its tone, its memory.
Because history is not something to remove.
It is something to reveal.
The Heirloom Effect
Objects made slowly age differently.
They soften.
They deepen.
They gather story.
This necklace is not seasonal jewellery.
It is something that will feel entirely natural decades from now — as if it has always belonged.
