£50 Handmade Silver Gift Token | A Little Heart, A Lovely Surprise
Because even the smallest surprises can make someone’s day rather wonderful.
There are presents that come in enormous boxes, wrapped in yards of paper and tied with extravagant ribbons.
And then there are little presents that fit in the palm of your hand and somehow mean just as much.
This is one of those little presents.
At first glance, it is a beautiful silver heart, individually handcrafted from an old British coin.
But this little heart has a secret.
It is also a £50 jewellery gift token, carrying the promise of something wonderful still to come.
Something lovely to unwrap today, something precious to wear while deciding, and the pleasure of choosing a little piece of Hairy Growler jewellery when the time feels right.
Once Upon a Time, It Was a Shilling
Before this little heart existed, its silver was part of an old British shilling.
Imagine all the places it might have been.
Perhaps it bought a bunch of flowers, a railway ticket or a bag of sweets. Perhaps it was tucked into a birthday card or saved for something special.
We will never know its adventures, but its silver has survived to begin another.
At my Cambridge workshop, I carefully transform the old sterling silver coin into a heart-shaped gift token using traditional hand tools and silversmithing techniques.
Every heart is individually shaped and finished, retaining the little differences that make handmade jewellery so personal.
And because I think the history of the silver deserves to be remembered, the original donor coin off-cut accompanies the finished token.
Yesterday’s pocket money, today’s little treasure.
A Gift with Two Stories
Here is what makes this gift rather special.
Instead of handing someone a paper voucher, you give them a real piece of handmade silver jewellery.
A little heart they can hold, wear and enjoy.
And when they are ready, they can explore the Hairy Growler collection and choose the jewellery they would truly love to own.
Perhaps a moon-gazing hare, a curious fox, a little silver bird or something they never expected to fall in love with.
They have twelve months from the date of purchase to make their choice.
Once they have found their favourite, the silver token can be returned to my workshop and redeemed for its full £50 value towards their chosen jewellery.
First, the joy of receiving. Then, the pleasure of choosing.
A Little Silver Heart to Wear While You Decide
Unlike an ordinary gift voucher, this little silver token is far too lovely to hide away in a drawer.
Measuring approximately 18mm by 16mm, it makes a delicate little pendant.
Choose an adjustable cotton cord in a colour that suits the recipient, or add an optional sterling silver necklace chain.
For an extra special finishing touch, my handmade sterling silver Shepherd’s Crook safety catch can be complemented by a tiny decorative charm.
A moon, star, heart, acorn or something else with a little personal meaning.
So even before the recipient has chosen their future jewellery, they have something beautiful to wear.
And perhaps a little story to tell when someone asks about it.
For Birthdays, Thank-Yous and Just Because
Not every lovely gesture needs a grand occasion.
Sometimes it is a birthday. A little thank-you. A congratulations. A surprise for someone who has been especially kind.
Sometimes you simply want to tell someone that you have been thinking about them.
And sometimes you have spent far too long looking at beautiful jewellery, unable to decide which piece they would like best.
This little silver gift token solves that problem rather beautifully.
It is thoughtful without being complicated, personal without making the choice for them, and wonderfully different from an ordinary gift voucher.
How Your £50 Silver Gift Token Works
- 1. A little piece of history. I individually handcraft your silver heart from a genuine old British sterling silver shilling.
- 2. Something lovely to open. Choose a simple presentation option, an adjustable cotton cord or an optional sterling silver necklace chain.
- 3. Time to explore. The recipient has twelve months from the date of purchase to discover their favourite Hairy Growler jewellery.
- 4. Return the token. When they have chosen, the silver heart is returned to my Cambridge workshop for redemption.
- 5. Let another story begin. The full £50 gift value is put towards their chosen piece of handmade jewellery.

A Little Silver Heart That Starts Conversations
“Lovely item”
Christine, September 2017 | 5 stars
Christine loved receiving the token alongside its original donor coin and hare-shaped gift bag. She enjoyed wearing it and found that friends were fascinated by the idea. She was looking forward to choosing a hare necklace.
And that is perhaps the loveliest thing about these silver gift tokens.
They are not simply a way of giving someone money to spend.
They are a thoughtful little gift in their own right, with another lovely experience still waiting to happen.

A Little Heart with a Rather Lovely Secret
I have always loved the thought that something as ordinary as an old coin can become something unexpectedly precious.
A shilling that once passed through countless hands becomes a little silver heart, given with affection, before helping someone choose a piece of jewellery that feels entirely their own.
There is a little history in it, a little imagination and a rather nice helping of kindness.
And perhaps that is what makes these tokens so special.
They are small enough to hold in your hand, but full of possibilities.
A little silver heart. A lovely surprise. And another story waiting to begin.
A gift with two stories, and a little piece of history at its heart.

Jon –
really nice gift
Really nice to have a gift token that you can hold, really good idea as not just a piece of paper or email, its an actual gift to open but still leaves the choice to the lucky person who received one from you! My girlfriend loved it!
Sarah –
Top marks!
It’s lovingly made and incredibly thoughtfully packaged so the person receiving it will feel special. not just a token gift! Would def. recommend as a gift esp. as all the jewellery on the website is so varied and all really lovely. Wording on FAQ about returning token is useful so printed that off – may be useful to include along with the cute little instruction cards sent with the token.

Silver token
Lovely item, came with the coin that it had been cut out of, and a hare shaped canvas gift bag. Will be visiting the Artisan market in Cambridge in the near future so that I can purchase one of the hare necklaces using the token. Have had quite a few comments when when wearing the token from friends who think it’s an excellent idea.
