Long before this little heart existed, its silver was part of a British shilling.

Just imagine.

Perhaps it once bought a bunch of flowers, a bag of sweets or a ticket to somewhere exciting. Perhaps it jingled in the pocket of someone rushing home to meet a sweetheart.

We will never know.

But the silver has survived, and now it has a rather lovely new purpose.

At my Cambridge workshop, I carefully transform an old sterling silver shilling into a tiny heart-shaped gift token using traditional hand tools and silversmithing techniques.

Every little heart is individually shaped and finished, with its own character and the gentle irregularities that make handmade jewellery so special.

And because I rather like knowing where things have come from, I include the original donor coin off-cut with the finished token.

My handmade sterling silver Shepherd’s Crook safety catch can be complemented by a tiny decorative charm, perhaps a moon, star, heart or little oak leaf.
