A little more detail…
Recycled little halfpenny coin
These are definitely tiny, sweet little charms / necklaces. I have cut them from small UK half pennies (no longer in circulation, 1984 was the last year of the half-pea). It is only a tiny 17 mm diameter coin, now i have started working with them i realise i quite miss them being in circulation! I used to buy sickly little ½ penny chewy sweets as a little boy.
The special Hairy Growler teeny weeny kingly queenie design serves as a metaphor for hope or a greater truth, suggesting that even in the smallest, most overlooked places, there can be a profound, regal presence.
It is a beautiful little coin to work with and i love the fact that the ½ penny denomination is visible within the design. You are able to choose the design as you see it or possibly request an available year 1971 – 1984. This date is visible on the reverse of the pendant and could add that extra special birthday touch. It is worth noting that some of these years will carry a surcharge as they are very scare / rare. However, your main decisions are to choose a right Royal little king or a sweet Royal birdie queen (complete with tiny engraved eyelashes!) Next you can choose hearts or stars for the theme, or indeed neither, just the little bird and crown!
The “kingly little bird” can symbolize hidden royalty, the triumph of intellect or spirit over brute force, or the paradox of power found in smallness, as seen with the wren, which earned the title “king of birds” through cunning.
Small birds often symbolize innocence and vulnerability in poetry, but when described as “kingly,” this contrast highlights the unexpected power of gentleness.
The design suggests that true leadership, or kingship, isn’t always found in imposing size but can exist in small, unassuming creatures who command respect through inherent qualities rather than dominance.
The juxtaposition of the “kingly” crown and “little” bird creates a compelling image that can represent various paradoxes: the humble heart of a great leader, the wisdom found in the smallest of things, or the idea that true power is not necessarily about size or aggression.
