A little more detail…
Hungry like the Wolf – Handmade Silver Wolf necklace
The wolf has always stood at the edge — between wild and familiar, instinct and intelligence, solitude and pack.
Wolf Spirit is a handmade silver pendant that holds that balance. It is not a symbol of aggression or dominance, but of awareness, loyalty, and the quiet confidence that comes from trusting one’s own instincts.
The Form
The wolf is shown in motion, suspended between ground and sky. Its body stretches forward with intent, while its gaze remains alert and focused. The design is drawn to feel alive rather than decorative — a moment captured rather than a pose arranged.
The surrounding celestial markings and lunar forms echo cycles of movement, time, and return, reinforcing the sense of passage rather than stillness.
The Eye
Set into the eye of the wolf is a small precious Ruby stone, secured using a gypsy (flush) setting. This traditional technique embeds the stone directly into the silver, allowing it to sit low, protected, and integrated into the form. The eye does not glitter for attention; it holds presence quietly.
It is a point of awareness — noticed up close, discovered rather than announced. A choice of Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire or Amethyst is yours.
Made by Hand
Each Wolf Spirit pendant begins as a hand drawing, refined through sketches and planning before being translated into silver. A suitable worn, uncollectible silver coin is selected. Each one is scarce and saved from the melting pots of refiners so together we can keep the history and endless wonderful unknown stories that the coin holds alive.
The wolf is saw‑pierced by hand from the flattened silver coin, then filed, shaped, engraved and finished slowly at the bench. Tool marks are softened but not erased, leaving subtle evidence of the making process.
No two pieces are identical. Small variations remain, marking each pendant as genuinely handmade.
Silver & Finish
The pendant is made in solid silver, chosen for its strength, warmth, and ability to age with character. Silver darkens and softens over time, responding to wear and environment. This natural patina is part of the life of the piece, recording experience rather than resisting it.
The coins are scarce in the worn condition I hunt for. In good condition they are expensive and plentiful being loved by collectors. The worn coins are quickly gathered up and refined into tradable ingots and the wondrous history is completely lost. Each piece I make recycles the worn uncollectible coins into something that can be worn and enjoyed and thus keep the magnificent history of the silver coin alive. This spectacular wolf has been purposely handcrafted from an old sterling silver English Two Shilling Florin coin circa early 1900’s.
Meaning & Wearing
The wolf has long symbolised instinct, loyalty, and the ability to navigate uncertain ground. Wolf Spirit is made to be worn as a companion rather than a statement — a reminder to stay alert, grounded, and connected to one’s own path. Some wear it for its symbolism. Others simply feel drawn to it. Meaning is allowed to develop over time.
Generally, wolves symbolise loyalty, strong family ties, intelligence, intuition, freedom, and strength. They also represent a little danger and chaos!
Wolves are cunning, adaptable predators that use strategy and excellent communication to survive. This has led to their association with sharp intelligence, deep instinct, and inner wisdom. The untamed nature of the wolf and its ability to roam vast wilderness areas without human constraints make it an icon of wildness, self-reliance, and personal freedom.
Wolves are highly social pack animals known for their strong family bonds, cooperative hunting, and shared responsibility in raising their young. This behavior makes them powerful symbols of loyalty, community, and the importance of relationships. They are fierce protectors of their pack and territory. They symbolise raw power, courage in the face of adversity, and guardianship.
Wolves are cunning, adaptable predators that use strategy and excellent communication to survive. This has led to their association with sharp intelligence, deep instinct, and inner wisdom. In many traditions, wolves are seen as pathfinders or spiritual guides who teach important lessons about life, survival, and connecting with one’s authentic self.
A Piece to Keep
Wolf Spirit is not designed for trends or seasons. It is made to be worn often, to age naturally, and to gather personal significance through use. Over time, it becomes less an object and more a presence — familiar, trusted, and quietly powerful.
