Take the Leap and Flourish
Half Crown Coin Necklace — Recycled British Silver (c. 1913–1919)
Some journeys begin in the palm of a hand.
Take the Leap and Flourish is a necklace shaped from a reclaimed British half crown coin struck in the years surrounding the First World War. This silver has already passed through decades of use — softened by time and bearing subtle marks of history — and has now been given a new purpose: a form of movement, possibility, and renewal.
The Coin
This necklace begins with a genuine British half crown coin dated circa 1913–1919.
Once used as everyday currency, the coin carries softened edges, tonal variation, and a tactile presence shaped by circulation. Rather than being melted down and reduced to anonymous metal, the silver is preserved and reworked directly — allowing its history to remain present in the finished piece.
Value is not erased here; it is redirected.
The Design — Leap & Flourish
From the heart of the coin, a dynamic form emerges — a stylised figure that suggests motion, growth, and forward movement.
Sweeping lines create a sense of lift and momentum, capturing the moment where hesitation gives way to action. The design is not literal; it is instinctive and open, shaped to feel organic rather than fixed.
This is a piece about beginnings — about choosing movement over stillness.
Made by Hand
The design is saw-pierced by hand directly from the original coin.
Each cut is guided by eye and feel, balancing line, weight, and flow at the bench. The process leaves subtle evidence of making — not imperfections, but quiet proof that this is a hand-shaped object rather than a cast reproduction.
Every piece carries small variations shaped by the original coin and the hand that worked it.
The traditional scrollwork flourishes are completely unique to each hare, made with traditional hand tools and techinques
Wear & Patina
As a recycled silver piece, Take the Leap and Flourish will continue to develop patina with wear.
Highlights soften, shadows deepen, and the surface records use rather than resisting it. The necklace settles naturally against the body and becomes increasingly personal over time.
It feels familiar almost immediately — as though it were always meant to be worn.
Meaning & Wearing
This necklace is often chosen as a personal companion — for moments of change, new beginnings, or quiet resolve.
It is not declarative or symbolic in an obvious way. Its meaning is held by the wearer, gathering through memory, association, and use rather than explanation.
Carried Forward
Take the Leap and Flourish is jewellery that preserves material, memory, and possibility.
Here, silver with history becomes an emblem of movement —
not new, but renewed.

Fabulous Hare
I love many pieces of recycled jewellery produced by the Hairy Growler Jewellery Co. My favourite is the Leaping Hare Moon, it captures the magic and mystery of Hares wonderfully. When you chose to purchase one you can chose what type of star and moon you want so it becomes unique to you – it doesn’t get any better!

Superb
Not long after finding The Hairy Growler online I noticed a lady at work was wearing this stunning piece of unique jewelry, it looks amazing! The workmanship is of very high quality and the hare is beautiful, almost magical. Looking forward to getting one of my own. It is absolutely stunning.

Absolutely Wonderful
I found this place that does the most amazing jewellery using recycled silver coins and silver cutlery and when the leaping moon hare sprang into view I knew my partner would love it. Upon opening the package the added extras of stars moons and little leaping hares started an unveiling which grew in excitement until the beautifully crafted jewellery emerged. She loves it as much as I’d hoped , all the people who’ve seen it think the same and the story of how it’s made adds another level to its appeal. Thank you very much for a lovely piece of lovingly made craftsmanship. Gareth
