Magical leaping hare jewellery – Recycled 22ct solid gold half Sovereign

I decided to cut each one of these leaping hare pendants from an 100 year 22ct solid gold half sovereign coin. I hand cut, hand carve and engrave these 22ct gold coins in Cambridge using traditional tools and techniques.

Firstly, I draw the  design freehand onto the gold coin. Secondly, I drill several holes and cut the sections delicately away. I file, smooth and finally polish the edges. The end result is a lovely, original, recycled pendant with a captivating history. You are welcome to request some personal, meaningful initials for the reverse.

The golden hare symbolizes rebirth, fertility, prosperity, good luck and the Moon.. It can signify the divine or sacred, such as in the case of the goddess Eostre. Its association with the moon and the myth of the three hares also connect it to themes of the mystical and the eternal cycle of life.

Hares are associated with spring and thus rebirth. The hare has a strong, universal connection to the moon, where people have historically seen a hare instead of a man. This link ties it to the tides, lunar cycles, and feminine energy.

The hare is a sacred animal and represent the mystical and secret knowledge. The “golden” aspect of the hare emphasizes this, suggesting a heightened or even magical quality of fortune. Hares are also symbols of cleverness and wit. In one tale, a hare tricks a lion into fighting his own reflection. In another context, the golden hare might be a symbol of a hidden treasure, representing a difficult and clever challenge to overcome.

Because of their association with fertility and the earth’s bounty, hares can symbolize prosperity and abundance. The golden aspect makes this symbolism even stronger. The “golden hare” represents a metaphorical treasure hunt, like Kit Williams’ “Masquerade”, where the hare is the prize. This can symbolize a journey of self-discovery, life, death, and nature.

The association with the moon and fertility can make the golden hare a symbol of feminine energy, creativity, and psychic sensitivity. The hare’s ability to move quickly between different realms and states of being can represent spiritual transformation and adaptability. The golden hare also represents virtues like courage or pride, acting as a symbol of chosen virtue.

Each pendant is carefully handcrafted to order, using only these recycled 100 year old 22ct solid gold coins. The coins themselves are the perfect medium for this beautiful design, inline with a love of nature using these coins is the perfect ethical and green solution. I assure that no new gold is destructively ‘mined’, and old, uncollectible pure gold coins are saved from the ‘melting pot’ of bullion merchants. This allows the coins to keep their history alive for the future generations.

Once the design has been freehand sketched on to the coin, it is carefully hand cut and carved using traditional hand saws, chisels and files. This traditional process allows me to have a close connection to each piece, ensuring the end result is personal and unique.

All three gold variations of necklaces in the collection are suitable for everyday continuous wear.

The Gold Finesse necklace is a lovely fine 9ct Gold chain which is and has been used on all of my work for many years. It looks and feels beautiful. The Finesse chain can be worn effortlessly without question.

The Gold Flourish necklace is created using a more substantial gauge recycled 9ct Gold chain which looks and feels fabulous.  This will become the most popular chain I create and will receive wonderful compliments and remarks.  It suits all of the work I offer and is the perfect choice for a special, secure, everyday continuous wear necklace.

The Gold Omnia VNVS Est necklace is a tremendous necklace with the look of the ages.  The individual 9ct Gold links and finishing safety hook are a little heavier in gauge than the finesse and flourish giving a slightly more substantial look and feel.
