There is an old belief that those who look toward the same moon are never truly apart.

The Moon Gazing Hares Together pendant was created from this quiet idea — two creatures paused beneath the night sky, sharing a moment of stillness within an ever-moving world.

Handcrafted from historic sterling silver shilling coins struck more than a century ago, the pendant carries a life already lived before entering the workshop. Once exchanged as currency, the silver travelled through unknown hands until time softened its detail and released it from circulation. Rather than disappearing into refinement, the metal was given pause and reshaped into story.

Here, history turns toward the moon.

Across cultures and centuries, the moon-gazing hare appears as an enduring archetype — a creature of instinct, intuition, and transformation. Folklore links the hare with lunar goddesses, rebirth, and the rhythm of changing seasons, its upward gaze symbolising curiosity and connection between earth and sky.

When two hares appear together, the meaning shifts.

They become companions beneath shared light:

A Canon of the Hairy Growler World

Moon Gazing Hares Together sits among the central symbols of Hairy Growler — alongside Blodeuwedd, the Green Man, and the Tree of Life — where mythology, recycled silver, and handcraft meet most clearly.

Made Slowly at the Bench

Each pendant begins as carefully selected sterling silver shillings dating from around the turn of the twentieth century. The design is drawn directly onto the coin surface before being cut entirely by hand using a jeweller’s piercing saw.

The process remains unchanged:

• freehand sketching onto historic silver

• hand piercing and carving

• careful filing and shaping

• oxidising to deepen contrast between moonlight and night sky

• polishing to reveal natural brilliance

No casting mould exists.

Every piece differs slightly, guided by the character of the original coins and the moment of making.

In Hairy Growler folklore, the hare is the Seeker — appearing at moments of change — while the moon represents continuity. When two hares share the same moon, the story becomes one of companionship through transformation.
