Raven feather necklace – handmade and recycled silver Florins
I have now read this enjoyable book several times (The Raven Girl is only a little, but very beautiful, 80 page illustrated book) and I have realised it definitely inspired me to create this piece. I have recycled a lovely but very worn and uncollectible silver coin. Here is a link to the book : http://audreyniffenegger.com/books/published-books/raven-girl-2013/ if you haven’t already read it.
These lovely pendants are hand cut from 100 year old pure silver British Florin coins. Circa 1890’s – 1900 these coins have a wonderful warmth and feel. Uncollectable to coin dealers due to excessive wear, these coins are the perfect raw material to recycle into something precious, unique and wearable. To obtain a rich, deep black patina the silver is oxidised in liver of sulphur and burnished. The feather comes complete with the original ‘donor’ coin.
Black Raven Feathers were worn by some Native Americans to express and symbolise changes in spirit.
Its also worth noting you don’t have to be a Raven Girl to wear this feather, you could be the postman! I am a fairly ‘manly man’ and wear one! I just love these feathers. 100% Handcrafted & Recycled in Cambridge, UK
