Red Deer
Recycled Irish One Punt Red Deer Pendant
Red deer are a powerful symbol of pagan England. These huge stags depicted on Irish coins have been honoured in folk art for thousands of years. They have been depicted in cave art as early as 40,000 years ago! Palaeolithic spiritual artwork is quite special and I saw the appeal of making artwork carved into tough stone walls,. In this, I wish to honour them instead of mounting their heads upon a wall.
This beautiful ‘out of circulation’ half crown coin provides the perfect size raw material to create a lovely brooch. I carefully cut the Red Deer Stag design with a traditional hand piercing saw. Then, I meticulously follow that design with carving tools to detail the traditional flourishing scrolls. Each one is completely unique and special. I aim to not only create a contemporary, wearable design but also revive some of the original history. I preserve these coins for a future generation.
If you liked this majestic stag, why not check out some traditional edelweiss flowers, or purchase a gorgeous silver oak leaf ring?
A lovely, original, recycled coin brooch with a fantastic history. Handcrafted and recycled in Cambridge, UK.
Size : Approx 31 mm diameter

First of all I must confess I’m a repeat customer as my wife now has a nice collection including brooches, pendants, bracelets and rings. This was a surprised birthday present and as usual it was well received. I never go wrong buying her jewellery especially the handcrafted Hairy Growler pieces. The subject matter is just great and this King of the Forest brooch with the huge elaborate antlers merging into the ‘punt’ label with the stamped celtic design on the body is like something out of Game of Thrones which was filmed extensively in our neck of the woods. Thanks once again. I have just ordered something extra special for my wife’s retirement.
