A little more detail…
Each ring is carefully handcrafted to order, every feather is individually hand carved and cut using traditional hand tools. This time honoured process allows me to have a close connection to each piece, ensuring the end result is personal and unique. Handmade and recycled in Cambridge, England.
Feathers were worn by Native American Chiefs to express their celestial wisdom. Feathers represented the power of the thunder gods, along with the power of air and wind.
As a Celtic symbol meaning, the feather was worn by Druids in ceremonies to invoke the sky gods.
The Egyptians believed that feathers were symbolic of sky gods too. Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of justice, would weigh the hearts of the newly dead in the underworld against the weight of a feather to determine the worthiness of his or her soul.
In dreams feathers are believed to relate to travel or the ability to move more freely in life. White feathers in dreams indicate innocence or a fresh start in a spiritual sense. The ‘off-cut’ of the silver Florin is included to complete the origin story of the piece.
A feather often symbolizes lightness, freedom, and spirituality, reflecting its physical properties of weightlessness and ability to soar. It can also represent hope, fragility, and the soul’s journey. Additionally, feathers can signify communication, messages from the divine, and even death or transformation.
Freedom and Flight:Feathers are inherently linked to birds and their ability to fly, making them a potent symbol of freedom, escape from earthly constraints, and the desire for liberation.
Spiritual Connection:Across many cultures, feathers are seen as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, often associated with ascension, messages from the divine, and the soul’s journey.
Hope and Resilience:Emily Dickinson’s famous poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” uses a feather to represent hope, emphasizing its ability to endure even in the harshest conditions.
Fragility and Delicate Strength:While feathers appear delicate, they are essential for a bird’s survival, highlighting a duality of fragility and inner strength. This can be interpreted as a symbol of quiet power or grace under pressure.
Transformation and Change:In some contexts, feathers can symbolize transformation, particularly when associated with molting or shedding of old feathers to make way for new ones.
Other Meanings:Depending on the context, feathers can also represent femininity, masculinity, beauty, or even fertility, especially when associated with vibrant colors or specific birds. Some cultures also associate them with respect, honor, or even a connection to ancestors.
Each ring is completely unique, individual and original.
