Silver wolf pendant – Recycled silver Shilling

Each pendant is carefully handcrafted to order, using only recycled silver shillings. The coins themselves are the perfect medium for this beautiful design; inline with a love of nature using these coins is the perfect ethical and green solution. No new silver is destructively ‘mined’ and old, uncollectible pure silver coins are saved from the ‘melting pot’ of bullion merchants so some of their history and story live on.

Once the design has been freehand sketched on to the coin it is carefully hand cut and carved using traditional hand saws, chisels and files. This traditional process allows me to have a close connection to each piece, ensuring the end result is personal and unique.

The image of a wolf howling at the moon evokes the untamed spirit of the wilderness and a deep connection to primal instincts. It can connects to a longing for freedom and a yearning to break free from the confines of civilization.

The lone wolf, often depicted in stark silhouette against the moon, can represent feelings of isolation, loneliness, and separation from the pack or society. Yet, it’s a powerful symbol of resilience and the strength found in navigating life’s journey independently.

Wolves howl to communicate with their pack, locate one another, and announce territory. They are often associated with intuition and instinct, particularly in Native American cultures where the howl can be a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. The moon itself is linked to intuition, dreams, and the cycles of life, adding to the spiritual significance of the scene. The howling wolf, enveloped by the moonlit night, evokes a sense of mystery and the unknown, inviting exploration of the subconscious mind and hidden truths.

The duality of the act is wonderful. The stance of a howling wolf suggests strength, defiance, and a refusal to be silenced, representing the courage to voice one’s convictions or face adversity. Whilst at the same time the mournful sound of a howl can evoke a sense of melancholy or yearning for something lost or unattainable.
