Witch’s Broomstick Charms | A Little Everyday Magic

For those who prefer to make their own magic.

Every witch needs a broomstick. Not necessarily for sweeping, you understand. Some are made for moonlit adventures, unexpected journeys and the occasional escape from the ordinary.

These little broomstick charms are individually handcrafted from old British coins, each one given a rather more magical second life at the Hairy Growler workshop in Cambridge.

Once they jingled in pockets, passed between strangers and paid for the everyday necessities of life. Now, with a little imagination and a great deal of patient silversmithing, they have become tiny travelling companions for those who still believe the world holds a little enchantment.

Three Metals, Three Little Pieces of Magic

Each broomstick is individually shaped and finished by hand, with its own character, texture and personality.

  • Silver Half Crown Broomstick: Created from an old British silver half crown coin. A beautifully understated little talisman with the soft gleam of historic silver.
  • Copper Penny Broomstick: Warm, earthy and full of character. Reimagined from an old British copper penny, with the rich tones of a well-loved metal.
  • Bronze Threepence Broomstick: A golden-toned little broom made from a twelve-sided British brass threepence coin, with a warm bronze-like finish and a wonderfully nostalgic history.

Every broomstick is individually handcrafted rather than simply reproduced, so small variations in shape, surface and finish are part of its charm.

The Witch’s Broomstick: A Symbol of Freedom

In folklore, the witch’s broomstick is rather more than a household implement.

It belongs to a world of midnight skies, ancient stories and women who refused to be quite as ordinary as everyone expected.

For some, it represents freedom. For others, independence, imagination or the courage to follow a path of their own choosing.

And perhaps that is the loveliest thing about wearing a little broomstick. It need not mean anything terribly serious at all.

Sometimes a little magic is simply a reminder not to take life too seriously.

From Old Money to Everyday Magic

Each charm begins with a genuine old British coin, carefully transformed using traditional jewellery-making techniques.

Working by hand, Les aka Harry Growler shapes the slender handle and textured broom head, giving every tiny piece the character of something discovered in an old witch’s workshop.

The original coin has finished its working life as money, but its metal continues its journey as something rather more personal.

It’s a small piece of British history with a wonderfully mischievous new purpose.

A Little Charm to Take Wherever You Wander

Wear your broomstick as a necklace, a personal talisman or a little reminder that adventures need not always be planned.

Whether you are a lover of folklore, a collector of unusual handmade jewellery, a Halloween enthusiast or simply someone with a soft spot for witches and woodland magic, these tiny brooms make thoughtful little gifts.

Especially for someone who has always preferred to fly their own way.

A Final Whisper from the Workshop

There is something rather wonderful about taking an old coin, once used to buy bread, milk or perhaps a newspaper, and turning it into a witch’s broomstick.

It is a reminder that even the most ordinary things can become extraordinary when you look at them differently.

A little history. A little mischief. And just enough magic to get you home before sunrise.

Handcrafted from yesterday. Made for wherever tomorrow takes you.
