Prince Rainbow & 40th Birthday carrot
Handmade and recycled 1986 old 5p coin
40th Birthday coin gift unique and wonderful handcrafted Prince Rainbow moon gazing hare necklace. I have a small selection of special years that I have managed to secure. This date is visible on the front bottom of the pendant across the birthday carrot and will add an extra special birthday touch. It’s marvellous to consider that the sweet five pence coin was minted the same year the recipient was born, both ageing fabulously obviously! The Crown is the actual crown which was on Queen Elizabeths head. I have carefully chiselled away her portrait and place the royal hare in her place, along with the 1986 birthday carrot.
Prince Rainbow is a complex figure in rabbit mythology. In Watership Down Prince Rainbow is seen as a steward of creation. As a truly “rabbitfied” force of nature Prince Rainbow is a personification of the actual rainbow. Because rainbows connect the sky (Frith’s domain) to the earth, rabbits likely interpreted this natural phenomenon as a messenger or a powerful, albeit distant, entity.
El-ahrairah often resents Prince Rainbow because he is not considered a “true” rabbit. He is viewed as an artificial, magical entity—sometimes imagined as a shining, shapeshifting, or color-absorbing force—rather than a living creature with practical, daily concerns.
While not as dark as the Black Rabbit of Inlé (the Grim Reaper figure), Prince Rainbow brings messages or constraints from Frith, representing the dangers and, at times, the harsh, orderly, or restrictive aspects of the natural world.
