Recycled ‘out of circulation’ fifty pence coins.

An original and unique gift to celebrate the milestone 50th birthday.  The high quality, hard wearing stainless steel cufflink base works beautifully with the original 50p coin.  The ‘off-cuts’ of the fifty pence coins are included with the cufflinks for added interest and origin story.

When it was first introduced in 1969, the heptagonal 50p was a truly revolutionary design and faced public resistance.  The 50p was a break from tradition, challenging the age-old convention of round coins. It represents the embrace of innovation, the courage to be different, and the eventual acceptance of the new.   This microcosm of the revolutionary spirit could be extrapolated out it wider society and the many various aspects of life where tradition was usurped in favour of new, transgressive ideas.  Fifty years later we return to tradition and I chisel away the edges and remake the 50p as a round coin to be worn as a cufflink.  Great fun.

NECKLACE INFORMATION

Many of the necklace / pendant designs are complete. These designs have a sterling silver chain attached to the pendant from both sides. This design is perfect for looking in a mirror to fasten the necklace. It also makes a fabulous feature of the handmade hook catch (and star if chosen).  The necklace length you choose includes the length of the actual pendant. Do not worry about the pendant dimensions we will take care of your order. Order the necklace length you would normally wear and the necklace you receive will sit in the perfect position..
