The Lamp post
Lamp post necklace – handmade and recycled silver 100 year old sterling silver Half Crown coin
The Lamppost presents a beautiful silhouette which conjures up so many wonderful comforting feelings. The meaning comes out of the heart of the person instead of being rooted in verifiable facts in terms of origin and meaning. The vision itself symbolizes a bygone era of simpler times, when streets were lit manually by lamplighters, and represent a sense of nostalgia and charm, a slower and perhaps more thoughtful pace of life. The romantic design and manufacture of the cast iron lamppost compared to a modern one is a reminder of how far we have strayed as a nation of people from our Grandparents beliefs and aesthetics. Metaphysically Lampposts can symbolize a variety of concepts, including guidance, hope and justice. They can represent the transition between worlds and our journey in life. This particular lamppost design unique to Hairy Growler is centred around three inlaid pieces of 24ct fine gold. I have lovingly crafted the lamppost pendant from a 120 year old silver half crown. The coins themselves are the perfect medium for this beautiful design, inline with a love of nature using these coins is the perfect ethical and green solution. No new silver is destructively ‘mined’ and old, uncollectible pure silver coins are saved from the ‘melting pot’ of bullion merchants. This protects their history and ensures their stories live on.
It is hand cut, carved and engraved using traditional hand saws, chisels and files. This traditional process allows me to have a close connection to each piece. This also gives the added bonus of each piece being completely unique. Each cross is individually handmade and recycled in Cambridge, England.
Size : Approx 40mm * 8mm
