A little more detail…

The leaping hare wishes it could fly and the little robin wishes it could build a nest as nicely as the hare. But together they are quite special.

The hare…

Swiftness and Agility: The hare’s iconic leaps and incredible speed naturally evoke swiftness, agility, and quick thinking. The swift movements you see them make reflects the unpredictable nature of life and the need to adapt quickly to evolving circumstances.

Fleeting Moments: The hare’s rapid movement highlights the ephemeral nature of beauty, joy, or life itself. Despite its speed, the hare is a prey animal, highlighting its vulnerability while also embodying resilience and the ability to outwit predators.

The Pursuit of Freedom & Triumph of the Spirit Leaping away from danger can symbolize the constant struggle for freedom, both literal and spiritual. The hare’s continued existence despite threats speaks to an indomitable spirit and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity.

Fertility and Rebirth: Hares are renowned for their fecundity, associating them with themes of fertility, renewal, and the cyclical nature of life. The leaping hare can mark a departure from the old and a hopeful embrace of what’s to come, aligning with the renewal of spring and the potential for fresh starts. The hare’s strong connection to life and reproduction can represent the powerful creative forces at play in nature and in human experience.

Trickster Archetype: In various cultures, the hare plays the role of a clever and mischievous trickster, often outsmarting larger, more powerful creatures. Its tricks represent immense resourcefulness, intelligence, and the ability to navigate challenges through wit and adaptability.

Challenging Authority: The trickster hare often defies expectations and social norms, hinting at the need to question authority and find unconventional solutions.

The Otherworld and Mystery: Hares are often seen as connected to the moon, magic, and the unseen realms in folklore. The Hare’s elusive nature and associations with ancient beliefs can lend a poetic sense of mystery, magic, and the spiritual to the image.

The Robin…

For me the robin presents a gentle form of divine or spiritual presence. It represents a connection to lost loved ones, the promise of renewal after hardship. Its distinctive red breast and persistent song have inspired diverse folklore across Christian, Celtic, and British traditions.

The common saying “Robins appear when loved ones are near” reflects a widespread belief that a visit from a robin is a sign from a deceased friend or family member. The bird’s bold, curious, and fearless nature around humans makes this connection feel especially direct and meaningful. After a loss, the unexpected appearance of a robin can bring comfort, reassurance, and a sense of enduring connection to those who have passed. Some folklore suggests that robins act as guides, accompanying souls to the afterlife or protecting them on their spiritual journey.

As one of the first birds to begin singing at dawn and to appear in the new year, the robin is a potent harbinger of hope and new beginnings. In regions with harsh winters, the robin’s return is eagerly anticipated as a sign that warmer days are ahead and that life will return after a period of dormancy. This symbolism represents a renewed sense of purpose and optimism.

The robin’s ability to remain cheerful and sing even during the coldest months makes it a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity. It is a reminder that light and warmth will return even after the darkest times. Encountering a robin can signify the end of one life phase and the start of a new, happier one.

The ring…

Each one of these beautiful rings is crafted from only the finest Victorian era sterling silver. I only use sterling silver that has found its way to me due to being unwanted by dealers due to no longer being part of a set.  I love to ‘adopt’ these little orphans and reinvent them as gorgeous wearable jewellery.  Each ring is completely unique, individual and original, 100% ethical and recycled!

The design is freehand drawn onto the surface of the of the silver. This basic sketch is embelished and detailed with a miniture hand saw and micro drill. Once cut out the piece is formed into a lovely ring. The ring is then polished to a shiny or brushed matte finish. I always feel quite pleased when holding the finished ring in my fingers, days earlier it had been a relatively unattractive, old piece of silver coinage or cutlery.

Size : Approx widest point 12 mm
