A little more detail…
The leaping hare, a potent symbol in folklore and literature, capturing our minds with visions of swiftness, agility, and transformation. It represents the ability to adapt and change direction quickly, both physically and mentally. The hare’s leaping motion can symbolize rebirth, renewal, and the cyclical nature of life, much like its shedding of winter coats for a lighter one in spring
The mystical leaping hare of the moor respected for its alertness, swiftness and resourcefulness. These lovely little earrings have been delicately recycled from the bowl of a vintage fruit spoon. The hares are drawn onto the underside of the spoon and then pierced out with a small jewellers saw and a drill. The earrings are presented with the actual ‘donor’ spoon from which they were made. This is ‘worked-upon’ and is transformed into a lovely little objet d’art which clearly demonstrates the green and ethical origins of the earrings whilst simultaneously connecting the wearer to their interesting one wondrous prior life!
Handmade and completely recycled in Cambridge, UK. Complete with the finest sterling silver earwires. Size : Approx 24 mm length
Swiftness and Agility: The hare’s iconic leaps and incredible speed naturally evoke swiftness, agility, and quick thinking. The swift movements you see them make reflects the unpredictable nature of life and the need to adapt quickly to evolving circumstances.
Fleeting Moments: The hare’s rapid movement highlights the ephemeral nature of beauty, joy, or life itself. Despite its speed, the hare is a prey animal, highlighting its vulnerability while also embodying resilience and the ability to outwit predators.
The Pursuit of Freedom & Triumph of the Spirit Leaping away from danger can symbolize the constant struggle for freedom, both literal and spiritual. The hare’s continued existence despite threats speaks to an indomitable spirit and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity.
Fertility and Rebirth: Hares are renowned for their fecundity, associating them with themes of fertility, renewal, and the cyclical nature of life. The leaping hare can mark a departure from the old and a hopeful embrace of what’s to come, aligning with the renewal of spring and the potential for fresh starts. The hare’s strong connection to life and reproduction can represent the powerful creative forces at play in nature and in human experience.
Trickster Archetype: In various cultures, the hare plays the role of a clever and mischievous trickster, often outsmarting larger, more powerful creatures. Its tricks represent immense resourcefulness, intelligence, and the ability to navigate challenges through wit and adaptability.
Challenging Authority: The trickster hare often defies expectations and social norms, hinting at the need to question authority and find unconventional solutions.
The Otherworld and Mystery: Hares are often seen as connected to the moon, magic, and the unseen realms in folklore. The Hare’s elusive nature and associations with ancient beliefs can lend a poetic sense of mystery, magic, and the spiritual to the image.

Brilliant works of art
I first saw the VW Campervans cut so skilfully and precisely and that was the intro into Hairy Growlers fantastic works of art, not just jewellery but works of art. I love buying different kinds of jewellery for my wife and she loves hares and whallah sure enough I found the hare ear rings which were perfect. Not only did I receive the hares but also the spoon they were cut out of. I can’t wait to see my wife’s face on Christmas day. Perfect works of art and I will be back for more.

Lovely, but…
Purchased these lovely earrings for my daughter – she was delighted with them, they were well made, and captured the spirit of a “dancing” hare… Unfortunately within the first week she lost one of them, must have slid out or caught on a scarf, perhaps if the hooks had been a bit longer, it might not have happened… have been unable to find it…. She is going to replace them – but will be using a plastic safety back.. So I would advise the use of earring “backs” to save anyone future disappointment.
