Recycled silver Florin coin
This beautiful autumn tree has been meticulously crafted from an old English sterling silver florin coin. The coin itself was minted in 1880’s from the finest silver. Not only does the silver ‘some-how’ feel warmer and more beautiful it also has the depth of its history behind it. This combined with the fact that it is more ethical and green to use than freshly mined and processed silver make it the perfect raw material for a gorgeous tree pendant!
Once flattened into the required shape, the autumn, skeletal tree design is roughly drawn onto the coin surface. This trace outline is carefully followed with an ultra fine piercing saw blade. The interior detail is revealed using the same hand saw and a pendant drill. I have added to little birds on the lower branches, just ‘huddled’ together, keeping warm and watching the world go by. You are welcome to request this tree design with or without the birdies (i understand that not everyone loves birds as much as me!) In fact you can go the opposite way and order a tree with a lovely little cat in their place.
Once crafted the tree is enhanced with a few lovely flourishes made with hand engraving tools. The tree can be finished with a simple crescent moon or star hanging freely at the bale upon request. For added interest the ‘off-cut’ surrounding coin is included. It is a wonderful scrap piece of silver that ties your new tree to its historical, green origins.
