Forget me not sixpence necklace

Recycled sterling silver sixpence

These lovely little lucky sixpence flower charms are a great gift for yourself or anyone you know who, well anyone really!! Each one is handcrafted from a genuine sterling silver pre 1919 English silver sixpence. The central floret is made from pure 24ct Gold, a little nugget inlaid in the middle.

Sterling silver was the choice material of all English Threepence’s, Sixpence’s, Shilling’s, Florins, Half-Crowns and Crown coins before 1919. This presents a great opportunity to create precious metal recycled jewellery.

The vast majority of these coins have suffered substantial wear over their years of circulation. It is these coins which are not valued by most coin collectors. In most cases these coins are acquired to be melted down for the basic silver value. This disappointing truth means that all of the history, detailsand interest of the coin are lost forever. Recycling the coins allows these original details to survive and become conversation. Obviously it is important for the piece of jewellery to be desirable, wearable and beautiful!

My second piece from Hairy Growler

I needed something so personal and special as a memento to remember my dearest bro. Something personal and special is precisely what I got. I haven’t taken it off since it arrived. Thank you so, so much.

    Most wonderful Christmas present!

I received this beautiful pendant as a Christmas present off my partner and it is absolutely perfect! I put it on straight away and on it has remained, I’ve not stopped looking at it either. The work that has gone into this to transform it from a sixpence is fantastic, I love how you can still see some original detail and the story behind it is wonderful.

My partner had this engraved with his initials on the reverse and upon closer inspection some of the surviving detail also shows my Grandmothers initials clear as day (IMP, from the old latin that was around the edge) making this piece even more special and treasurable!

I am so very thankful to Hairy Growler, this is truly a piece I will cherish for life.
