Posie Posy Ring
The Posie Posy Ring – 22ct recycled Gold Ring
This Posie Posy Ring is a modern take on an amazing part of traditional English history. One tiny piece of jewellery can be the epitome of joy and sorrow, success and failure, hopes and fears. All of these aspects are, too, knowable only to the giver and the wearer.
A posy ring was given by a lover to his love in English tradition, to show his everlasting commitment and promise to the girl. These delicate promise rings were made only of 22ct gold, extremely valuable and pure, and were engraved with messages from the lover to his lass. In the spirit of this, you can choose around five phrases, key words, symbols or dates to be engraved onto the ring.
Popular phrases inscribed onto traditional rings included things such as:
‘I choose never to change‘
‘Love is my joy’
‘My hart is thine’
‘My heart lives where it loves’
‘As endless is my love as this ring’
‘Memento mori’.
A personal favourite is ‘amore vincit omnia’, which means ‘love conquers all’ in Latin; a timeless and lovely phrase in one of the oldest known languages. Another phrase, ‘Mon bel amour, je te donne mon coeur’, meaning ‘my beautiful love, I give you my heart’ in French. French is a particularly apt language, as it’s generally accepted as the language of romance and love!
These phrases are special because not only are they beautiful, but they are also part of English history from all the way back to the fifteenth century. However, your own phrases, dates, sigils or words can also be engraved too. Each Posie Posy ring has its own phrases and symbols, so each is individual and special!
Once your order of a Posie Posy Ring is received and booked into the workshop calendar, we will draft a few potential design layouts for your approval, and work with you to finalise the perfect posy ring.
If you liked these rings, why not have a look at a wee heart of gold?
