A little more detail…
The raven spirit feather – Recycled silver florin coin.
The raven feather is complex and multifaceted necklace, embodying a bridge between worlds, ancient wisdom, and the duality of light and shadow. It is a potent symbol for transformation, magic, and prophecy, drawing on its association with the Norse Odin and the Celtic Morrígan.
The raven feather is a powerful representation of communication between the material and spiritual realms. In many cultures, ravens and their feathers act as psychopomps, guiding the souls of the deceased to the afterlife. The feather is seen as a key that can unlock messages from ancestors or the divine, granting insight into the unknown. It holds the secrets whispered to the raven and carried back to the world.
Ravens are intelligent and their feathers contain the spiritual residue of this deep wisdom. In Norse mythology, Odin’s raven Muninn (“Memory”) brings back knowledge from across the world. A raven feather can therefore symbolize the weight of memory and the wisdom it imparts. The ability of ravens to speak in ancient folklore connects them to prophecy and deep insight. A feather can represent a connection to this foresight and the ability to perceive what is to come.
In some pagan and shamanic traditions, a raven feather is used in rituals and spells for healing, protection, and to channel the bird’s powerful medicine.
While often associated with death, the raven feather is also a profound symbol of transformation and the cycle of death and rebirth.
In Native American legend, the raven’s black feathers were singed by the sun after it stole fire to bring light to the world. This makes the feather a symbol for bringing light and knowledge out of darkness. The raven’s black plumage represents the shadow self, the void, and the unseen. A feather symbolizes the journey through this darkness, acknowledging that new growth and wisdom emerge from facing the unknown.
As carrion eaters, ravens feast on the dead, connecting them to the idea that death provides sustenance for new life. The feather serves as a reminder of this perpetual cycle. The raven feather reminds us that wisdom and magic exist in the balance between light and darkness, and that embracing both aspects of existence is part of the journey.
These lovely feather necklaces are hand cut from 100 year old pure silver British Florin coins. Circa 1890’s – 1900 these coins have a wonderful warmth and feel. Uncollectable to coin dealers due to excessive wear, these coins are the perfect raw material to recycle into something precious, unique and wearable. To obtain a rich, deep black patina the silver is oxidised in liver of sulphur and burnished. The feather comes complete with the original ‘donor’ coin. Size : approx 40mm * 18 mm

This is a lovely necklace, the feather is beautiful and so well made. I’m always asked where I have bought it from. Great use of an old coin.

Beautiful!
What can I say about this gorgeous piece? Even better than it looks on the website, my Raven Girl was the object of much admiration and desire from the guests (and photographer!) at my wedding. I’d actually neglected to mention when ordering the date I needed it for yet it must’ve been fate as my necklace arrived the very day before I was due to get married!
I adore my Raven Girl. The engraving on the back makes this a one-of-a-kind which I absolutely love, and I have it on my dressing table whenever I’m not wearing it so that I can admire it every day! I also enjoy having the remnant of the silver coin included in the parcel as I’ve tucked that into my purse so I can carry it around with me as a lucky charm. I’m sure this gorgeous necklace will be the first of many HG pieces in my life before long, but what a piece to start with! Stunning.

Utterly delighted
i adore my pendant, it is everything that I hoped it would be and more. The feather is just perfect, I’m going to struggle to do it justice in words but it has a really special feel to it, not a sterile piece that is mass made but a beautiful hand crafted piece that is so tactile and even in the short time I have had it I have had many compliments on it. I am completely smitten and delighted with it.
