Stonehenge ring

“Stonehenge ring handcrafted and recycled from an old silver coin.”

Grim stones whose gray lips keep your secret well,
Our hands that touch you touch an ancient terror,
An ancient woe, colossal citadel
Of some fierce faith, some heaven-affronting error.
Rude-built, as if young Titans on this wold
Once played with ponderous blocks a striding giant
Had brought from oversea, till child more bold
Tumbled their temple down with foot defiant.
Upon your fatal altar Redbreast combs
A fluttering plume, and flocks of eager swallows
Dip fearlessly to choose their April homes
Amid your crevices and storm-beat hollows.
Even so in elemental mysteries,
Portentous, vast, august, uncomprehended,
Do we dispose our little lives for ease,
By their unconscious courtesies befriended.

“Stonehenge ring handcrafted and recycled from an old silver coin.”

Stonehenge ring is handcrafted to order from an 100+ year old sterling silver coin, which were minted before 1920 in ‘Britain’ (and many other countries) are sterling silver. These coins are just perfect to turn into a Stonehenge ring ancestral history and mysterious unknown stories. Making this Stonehenge ring is a long process, from silver half crown coin to finished piece.

During the creation I am thinking about our history, and about the lost history of the people, replaced with Royal histories and stories of wars and battles. I’m thinking about ancient ancestors and the use of megalithic structures. Thinking about our lost/hidden origin stories as a people.  This coin is a cherished process and I don’t think it would be possible, if all of the time I was working on a piece of silver which was bought from a supplier, who in turn bought it as part of a supply chain beginning in a destructive profit drive silver mine.

The ring’s outer surface is emblazoned Stonehenge stones, which are hand-cut, hammered and carved into the surface of the silver coin. The inside of the ring, clearly shows the other side of the coin. This gives the rings a wonderfully interesting aspect and evident history. This hidden detail, for you, completes the Stonehenge coin ring.

Smaller size rings are made using sterling silver Sixpences and Shillings. Medium-size rings are made using Shillings and Florins, whilst larger rings are made using Florins and Half-crowns. They all look magical.

Sizes : Approx

Shillings approx 6mm wide.

Florins approx 7 mm wide.

Half-crowns approx 8 mm wide.

“An unbroken circle of union…”

Finally, these rings also make fab alternative wedding bands; the creative process used in making them means that there is no join. They are an unbroken circle. One coin turned into a lovely, original ring, and you have to admit a pair of beautiful hares hands down beat a traditional ‘ring pillow’ for the ceremony!

Excellent and unique feel. This is a chunky and rustic style ring. I like the fact that you can make out details from the original coin in the inside. Thanks Hairy Growler! …Especially for the tweak 🙂
