Alder – “Fearn” – Ruler of the 4th Lunar Moonth – (18th March – 14th April)
Ogham tree ring made from a recycled silver Victorian Shilling. Given to the fourth moonth of the thirteen month Lunar calendar (18th March – 14th April) by ancestors the Alder was the magical first tree of Bran, most high of the Celts. Giver of courage, rhythm, vibration and connection conscious awareness. Never far from source material, water, it spans the whurlds between the physical reality and non physical consciousness. Among the many British places carrying the alder name from centuries past are Aldreth in Cambridgeshire and Alderford in Norfolk.
The Alder leaf ring I have created from a recycled silver coin are imbued with these connections and will make beautiful ring and protection amulet. The design is freehand drawn onto the slightly flattened silver shilling. I then meticulously follow this guide sketch with a traditional hand engraver. The design is then ‘pierced’ out with a traditional jewellers hand saw. It is these tools which allow me a close connection with each piece and to ensure your ring will be completely original and special to wear. The back of the ring is the Ogham rune for Alder. If preferred you are welcome to request an initial in place of the rune. The design is finished with a lovely hammer textured and faceted silver band also made from 100% recycled silver.
The ring is presented with the ‘donor’ silver shilling from which the leaf was hand cut. This is a lovely piece of silver which connects your ring to its previous wondrous history.
Size : The Alder leaf is approx 15 mm wide and 20 mm long.
Recycled in Cambridge. 100 year old+ Sterling silver coin.
