Ireland Eire Wolfhound Sixpence

Recycled Irish Triple lucky sixpence coin

The Seahorse…
The seahorse, apart from being a beautiful creation symbolizes strength and guidance. The seahorse also signifies good luck and protection. They also give a feeling of calmness, contentment, friendliness and gentleness.. Each coin is the result of time, patients and enjoyment. A lovely pendant for anyone.  Especially those looking for luck and beauty.

The seahorses unique upright swimming posture and ability to anchor itself with its tail defo symbolizes perseverance, resilience, and stability. It reminds us to find our own anchors, whether they be inner strength or supportive relationships, to weather life’s storms.

Seahorses are not swift swimmers, yet they persevere and navigate their environment with grace and determination. This embodies the idea that success doesn’t always require speed, but rather a steadfast and patient approach.

In some cultures, seahorses are seen as symbols of protection and contentment. Their gentle nature and unique appearance evoke a sense of peace and well-being.

The Shamrock…
The shamrock, with its three leaves, is a powerful symbol deeply rooted in Irish culture and history, holding meanings beyond mere luck. It’s primarily associated with faith, hope, and love, and also represents the Holy Trinity in Christian tradition, particularly through the teachings of Saint Patrick. Additionally, the shamrock is a symbol of Ireland itself, its national emblem, and is often linked to themes of resilience, heritage, and good fortune.

Saint Patrick famously used the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to the Irish people, making it a sacred symbol of Christianity.

The shamrock’s association with spring and new growth also imbues it with a sense of hope and renewal, reflecting the cyclical nature of life. While often associated with faith and hope, the shamrock also represents love, completing the trinity of virtues often attributed to its leaves.

The “luck of the Irish,” often linked to the shamrock, speaks to the resilience and enduring spirit of the Irish people, particularly in the face of adversity.

The Lucky Sixpence…

Each pendant is carefully handcrafted to order, using only these recycled sterling silver sixpence coins. The coins themselves are the perfect medium for this beautiful design, inline with a love of nature using these coins is the perfect ethical and green solution. No new silver is destructively ‘mined’, rather, old, uncollectible coins are saved from the ‘melting pot’ so some of their history and story live on.

Origins of the Sixpence as a Lucky Charm:

Wedding Tradition:It’s common for a sixpence to be placed in a bride’s shoe to wish her good fortune. This practice is thought to have originated in the early 1600s when the Lord of the Manor presented the coin as a wedding gift, and later, it became a customary dowry gift.

Christmas Pudding Tradition:Another tradition involves placing a sixpence in the Christmas pudding before it’s cooked. The person who finds the sixpence in their portion on Christmas Day is said to have good luck for the coming year. This tradition is believed to have started during Victorian times, specifically on the Sunday before Advent, known as “Stir Up Sunday,” according to The East India Company Collections.

Fairies and the Sixpence:Some folklore suggests that fairies would reward a tidy maid or housewife by leaving a sixpence in her shoe.
