Strawberry Moon Hare coin necklace – handmade and recycled little halfpenny coin

The moon has always been a marker — of time passing, of cycles returning, of moments best noticed rather than measured.

Strawberry Moon Gazer is a handmade pendant created from an original British halfpenny, transformed into a small, wearable scene. It brings together moon, landscape, and watcher — a quiet moment caught in metal.

The Coin

Each pendant begins with a genuine British halfpenny.

These coins already carry history in their surface: softened edges, small marks, and the quiet weight of circulation. Rather than erasing that history, the design works with it, allowing the coin’s age to remain present.

The circular form becomes both frame and horizon — a natural boundary for a contained world.

The Scene

At the heart of the design is a hare, paused and gazing upward.

Above it, the moon hangs low, textured and luminous against the night sky.  Wild magical mushrooms and tufts of grass, grounding the scene and giving it depth. Stars punctuate the space lightly, suggesting distance rather than spectacle.

The composition is balanced to feel calm and attentive — a moment of stillness rather than action.

The Strawberry Moon

The Strawberry Moon takes its name from early summer — a time associated with ripening, warmth, and the fullness of the year.

It is a moon of arrival rather than beginning, marking a point where growth becomes visible and intention begins to take shape. In this piece, the moon is not symbolic of fantasy, but of awareness — a reminder to pause and notice where you are.

Made by Hand

Each halfpenny is worked and engraved by hand, with the scene cut and refined directly into the coin.

The pendant is finished carefully to retain detail without removing the softness that comes from age and handling. No two coins are identical, and each finished piece carries small differences in tone and surface.

The bail and fittings are made in pure copper and assembled by hand, allowing the pendant to sit comfortably when worn.

Copper & Patina

The warm tone of the halfpenny contrasts naturally with silver fittings and chain.

Over time, the coin will continue to develop its own patina, darkening and brightening in response to wear. This change is part of the piece — a visible record of time and use rather than deterioration.

Meaning & Wearing

Hares have long been associated with lunar cycles, attentiveness, and movement between states.

Strawberry Moon Gazer is made to be worn as a companion — a small reminder to look up, to notice cycles, and to stay present within them. Meaning is not fixed; it gathers slowly through wear and personal association.
