Recycled Irish 3d Threepence coins
This beautiful brooch is a design i have been making for many years but it just keeps getting better and better the more i create it. The triple hare motif is prevalent in many cultures for over 1000 years of history, probably many more!
The reason i make and reinterpret the triple hare design is to primarily recycled these ‘out of circulation’ Irish threepence coins. I have recently been fortunate enough to have a huge bag of these coins donated to me and thus now have the ideal coins to create and sell this design on the website.
It is a tricky design to successfully make but one which is very special when finished. The origins of the brooch are clearly visible and the design is very striking. Using a fine nibbed marker pen a quick layout sketch with registration points is dropped on to the surface of the three threepence coins. I then meticulously cut away the hares with a traditional jewellers saw. Once the details are cut the coins are fused into the three ‘leaflet’ clover / shamrock. A nice piece of fork prong is used for the finishing stem.
I handcut each coin individually to create this three coin brooch, as a result each one is completely unique and unusual. They look and feel very special. You are welcome to choose the triple hare or Clàrsach harp design.

I bought this piece for my wifes birthday, and she was totally over the moon with it,The design itself and the quality of workmanship were both outstanding. Also communications while this piece was being made were also very good.
Thanks again
